Ketch and CleverTap

Fulfill access and deletion requests against a unified customer profile, with an honest account of what CleverTap's own API can and can't do around consent.

CleverTap

About CleverTap

CleverTap builds one unified profile per user and orchestrates messaging across push, email, SMS, WhatsApp, and in-app channels from that single profile. CleverTap doesn't expose a purpose-level consent API, which means genuine Consent Orchestration isn't possible here; channel-level opt-out through Preference Orchestration is the real mechanism available, and this integration is built around that reality rather than pretending otherwise.

Capabilities

How Ketch works with CleverTap

The Ketch CleverTap integration covers Rights Orchestration (Right to Deletion, Right to Access) and Preference Orchestration. Deletion requires an Admin user's passcode specifically; a non-admin passcode won't work.

Rights Orchestration

Right to Access retrieves a single unified profile matched by email, CleverTap Identity, or CleverTap Object ID. Right to Deletion permanently and irreversibly deletes the profile, processed asynchronously with a roughly 24-hour delay during which CleverTap's own dashboard shows a "marked for deletion" status.

Preference Orchestration

Maps each Ketch subscription topic's contact method onto a CleverTap channel (email, phone, or WhatsApp), sending a Resubscribe or Unsubscribe signal to the matching identity. One real behavior worth knowing: CleverTap's Subscribe API operates at the channel level, so an Unsubscribe sets a do-not-disturb that stops communication for every profile sharing that same email or phone number, not just the specific profile that requested it.

With Ketch, teams can

  • Fulfill Right to Access and Right to Deletion requests against a unified CleverTap profile, matched by email, Identity, or Object ID
  • Know upfront that deletion takes roughly 24 hours to process and requires an Admin passcode

The gap

The problem this integration solves

CleverTap's own architecture creates real constraints that need to be understood accurately rather than assumed away:

01. Assuming purpose-level Consent Orchestration is possible, when CleverTap doesn't expose that API, sets an expectation this integration genuinely can't meet

02. A deletion request submitted with a non-admin passcode will fail, which is better to know upfront than discover as an error

03. An Unsubscribe signal at the channel level can silently affect other profiles sharing the same email or phone, which matters for understanding the real scope of a preference change

Ketch resolves this by being explicit about what CleverTap's API actually supports, rather than overstating consent capability that doesn't exist, and by documenting the admin passcode and shared-identifier behaviors clearly.

Why Ketch

Why teams choose Ketch for CleverTap privacy compliance

Permissioning infrastructure that governs CleverTap the same way it governs every other system in your stack — not a one-off connector bolted onto a banner.

  • Honest about CleverTap's real API surface

Consent Orchestration is stated plainly as unsupported, since CleverTap itself doesn't expose the API for it, rather than an overstated claim.

  • Clear about deletion's real timing and requirements

The roughly 24-hour asynchronous processing window and the Admin passcode requirement are both documented upfront.

  • Backed by enforcement precedent

The California Attorney General reached a $1.55 million settlement with Healthline Media over sharing sensitive data with advertisers without valid consent, a reminder that customer engagement platforms carry real exposure when preference and deletion mechanics aren't understood and applied accurately.
